Syndrome"

The Mom's Choice book award logo with text reading "Distinguished Honoree - Recipient of the prestigious mom's choice award"
shirt, pink skirt, and pink and purple shoes running excitedly on a playground.

Click, Tic, Jerk, and Hop is a touching and empowering picture book that follows the journey of a young child with Tourette Syndrome. Struggling to understand why her body and voice act in unexpected ways, she feels isolated and wonders if she'll ever truly belong. But through courage and self-discovery, she learns how to embrace her differences-and inspire others to do the same.

Written in rhyme by debut author, Jackie Nau, who shares her own experiences with motor and vocal tics, this beautifully illustrated book offers a heartfelt window into living with Tourette Syndrome. With vibrant artwork and uplifting poetry, it delivers a universal message of compassion, empathy, and the importance of creating a supportive community for all.

Perfect for children, families, and educators, Click, Tic, Jerk, and Hop is more than a story-it's a tool for understanding, acceptance, and celebrating what makes us unique. Includes a helpful list of resources for further learning and support.

Tourette Syndrome is often misunderstood and commonly a source of ridicule due to the characteristic motor and vocal tics associated with the condition.

For this reason, it is vital for patients and their families to know that they are not alone-either in living with Tourette or in their journey to manage the symptoms caused by it.

Jackie Nau and her husband, Dr. Scott Nau, a semi-retired pediatrician with more than 40 years of experience, started a clinic in 2024 that offers comprehensive evaluation and management services for those living with Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorders.

The clinic offers care for both children and adults. For more information or to set up an appointment call Mercy Medical Center at 319-861-7900. Alternatively, you can reach us by email at sknaumd@gmail.com
